Originally from Northern California, Alan is new to the Triangle Area. He started playing guitar at thirteen years old and has been steadily expanding into other instruments. His grandparents were very active in the Sacramento Banjo Band and as a result, Alan grew up attending their concerts and events for as long as he can remember. In addition to learning from his grandparents, Alan also learned music from various private teachers, books, magazines and by listening to a lot of music with an open mind and ear.
Alan encourages his students to have FUN playing their instruments while also taking time to be creative. He strives to keep his students working towards a goal as well as seeking out new challenges. When Alan is not playing guitar, he stays busy in his home workshop building, repairing and modifying guitars as well as other stringed instruments. Alan teaches guitar, bass and ukulele.
